Carence Korzelius’ recent photographic work is rooted in the Japanese philosophy of Chōwa - the pursuit of a life in balance. Through her images, she poetically explores the longing for silence, harmony, and inner peace. A personal catalyst for this search is living with tinnitus: a sound that may be imagined or real, but is always present.
This ongoing experience led to a deeper connection with the values of Chōwa, with a strong focus on both physical and mental well-being. From this mindset, intuitive and emotionally driven works emerge - visual self-portraits that capture specific moments, places, and inner states.
Silence, aesthetics, color, and form are key elements in Carence’s visual language. The result is a delicate balance between structure and freedom, rhythm and routine - and the ever-present question: do I stay, or do I follow my own path?
